One of the best nights out I had recently was at
Guanabara for M.'s birthday. I may have mentioned before that I feel rather inadequate next to M. trying to be some
London expert, because really
she is the one with all the insider info about latest cool places and gigs... But then, I'm the one with the blog. As long as I have informers like her, I suppose I can get away with it!

Latino music always makes me
sooo happy, it's like infused with sunshine. So even though
Guanabara was packed like a can of sardines, I was having much fun dancing and shaking my booty to the sunny tunes. It's great value for money too, with no entrance fee if you come before 9pm (which we did, at about 8.59!!!) and their various different flavours of
mojito are all somewhere around the £6 mark, which is a lot easier on the pocket than most Friday nights in London. Throughout the night, there was a ton of entertainment too, including live dance performances and live music. The crowd was good,
uninhibited, not bothered about labels or a few extra pounds of flesh here and there.

How refreshingly different to the
über-pretentious places I sometimes get dragged to by some of my
über-pretentious friends. You know, those dark glossy venues where the waitresses are not allowed to smile and where people quietly sip their £15-
lychee Martinis while shooting fierce looks to the
thinner girl sitting across the room, contemplating whether it would be okay to pierce her pretty face with
Manolos. There is only so much time one can spend entertaining oneself by adjusting one's skirt and the crossing and uncrossing of one's legs.
Blaaaah.

None of that at
Guanabara, of course ... Instead we took silly photos wearing these Virgin glasses, which at some point appeared out of nowhere, as these things always do. It's fun to have your virginity back; for two minutes, no more.
The London School of Samba was having a competition during the night, picking an act that will perform at the
Notting Hill Carnival this summer.

Oh, and did I mention there were a lot of hot guys there? I am talking Ricky Martin doppelgangers. OK, so I know he has just had his
Coming Out Tour, but still ... he is one hot
chili pepper in my eyes. The sultry look in his eyes. The smile. The hip movements. A guy with a tan and a good body ... come on!!! It really makes me look forward to my upcoming vacation in Colombia this summer. Sod English guys with their pasty skin and beer bellies. Yuckity, yuckity, yuck.
