Recorders Bhangra: London Mela 2008... and shopping

Despite the rain, I had the perfect weekend. On Saturday, I decided to head down to the London Recorder Centre near Baker Street to buy some sheet music to play, since I had recently taken up the recorder again. (No kidding, I am a serious Grade 8 player. I can hear you saying, "I played the recorder when I was six!" Congratulations.) It was a pleasant little shop and I walked out of there with Bach, Corelli, Bellinzani and a collection of concertos. My neighbours are probably not too happy to be listening to me practising pieces over and over again, but do I care? Apart from sheet music, the shop also sells high-quality wooden recorders, some renaissance and other early versions of the recorder, CDs, cases, accessories, and cheap plastic recorders too (the kind that you played when you were six).

On Sunday, there was a big Asian event, the London Mela, happening (almost) right on my doorstep at Gunnersbury Park. It was fantastic - several stages with great Indian music, including plenty of bhangra. I also had a kulfi for the first time since leaving India, which was nice! The weather was crap, unfortunately and it rained and rained and rained ... otherwise I could have stayed there all day watching the music.

Here's my video of some of the action:
